• Developments within the textile and clothes manufacturing industry over the first half of the year 2010 reflect a certain improvement regarding the general economic outlook, thanks to the growth in foreign demand
SIMM, the Madrid International Fashion fair, an event organised by IFEMA, will present the most comprehensive overview of the latest trends, styles and ideas for the new Spring-Summer 2011 Season between 2nd and 4th September at Feria de Madrid. This event provides a unique glimpse of the fashion industry in Spain, representing every market segment. On this occasion, SIMM will once again confirm its role as the best trade showcase for the Spanish clothing industry and an ideal forum for marketing its collections.
The fair's sixty-fourth edition will feature the participation of some 357 companies and around 500 represented fashion brands, who will exhibit and promote their collections in Halls 12 and 14 at Feria de Madrid. These halls, which were used by the fair at the last edition, will continue to provide the venue for SIMM over the next two years, based on a new interior decor (more open and modern stands and overhead lighting, etc), in line with the image presented at other international fairs. Furthermore, Halls 12 and 14 will present a unique exterior decor, with which the fairground will inaugurate a new thematic space designed for the staging of both fairs and other events linked to the world of fashion, lifestyle and new trends (fashion parades, fiestas, presentations, gala events, etc) organised by IFEMA and by private bodies.
The layout of the exhibition at this edition of the fair will be the same as that of last February's edition, with the sole exception of the incorporation of a new section for swimwear and lingerie ("Moon & Sun"), which will replace the section that presented the coat collections in February ("Warm"). The distribution of the brands according to the fair's different sections will depend on the philosophy, style and way of understanding fashion that each brand presents in its collections. In this respect, Agents will bring together the prestigious high-quality brands that have an established reputation on the European market; Charm will present urban-style fashion items that are eminently practical; Class will offer a range of basic contemporary classics; Ego will bring together the ideas of a number of up-and-coming designers; Gala will feature a series of evening-wear collections and clothing for special occasions; Natural will present the collections made with materials that have a simple and natural appeal, inspired by country, folk and Ibiza styles; whilst Moon & Sun will present underwear and lingerie fashion, fitness attire and swimwear. The fair's exhibition will be completed with the following sections: Touch, featuring a complete universe of accessories adapted to every style; Ready, inter-seasonal fashion ideas for Autumn-Winter 2010; and Shop, exclusive furnishings and services for promoting innovation at points of sale.
SIMM will feature the participation of brands that have an established record and reputation within the world of fashion, such as Vilagallo, TMX, Naulover, Laga, Olimara, Oki Coki, Alba Conde, Savage Culture, Guitare, Jota+Ge, Mercedes de Miguel, Alexandra Plata, Flamenco, Tantra and Jorge Terra, among others. Furthermore, the lingerie section will feature a number of leading international names such as Cervin Paris, Les Jupons de Tess, Gonzales and Nichole de Carle.
As far as the international dimension of the fair is concerned, this edition features the participation of exhibitors from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
With regard to the fair's international dimension, in the same way as at previous editions, SIMM has organised a Foreign Buyers Programme that will attract professionals from different countries throughout Eastern Europe, as well as a Foreign Press Programme, a measure implemented in collaboration with the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX).
As a new feature at this edition, nearly twenty high-category women's fashion companies (39 brands) present for the firest time their collections at what are known as the "IFEMA SHOWROOMS", located at the North Convention Centre of the exhibition centre. In this respect, a selection of brands from the most exclusive segment of the market will present their collections to customers and clients in a setting that matches the unique appeal of their fashion creations. The timetable for the Showrooms will be longer than that of the fair, although they will be presented on the same dates and very close to where SIMM takes place. A free bus service will provide a permanent connection between the two events, as well as guaranteeing access to the Underground station. In this respect, it will be as easy for professionals to discover the collections offered by these brands as those presented by the exhibitors at the fair, without them having to travel to different parts of the city.
The participating companies at the first edition of IFEMA Showrooms are: L&M Fashion Agency, with their brands Leonora and Fee-G; Michael Wagner, with the brands Lafti Lie, Detlef Mandel (Avantgarde Fiesta), Qui Moments, Bianca and Ana Alcázar; Treperte Moda, will present the latest ideas from Naughty Dog, Clips More, Il Marchese Coccapani and Enric Ri; Modastyl, will feature the creations of Frank User, Dusk, Ambiente and Esisto; Cantallops 1897, will represent Airfield, Anneclaire, Dismero, Luisa Cerano and N3. For its part, BP Studio will present the following brands: Velvet, Liebeskind (bolsos), T Bags and Iconoclast; CPS Comproser, with Mabel Magalhaes; Pestilo with Presen and Mireia, and Representaciones Moer, with Taviani brand. This first editionof the Showrooms will also feature the participation of the companies Duedisimo, Milaches, Radovan/Angelita Morillo, Teresa Ripoll, Piedad Rodríguez Alta Costura, Mireia Argente, Julián Gil, Kina Fernández, Mar Cano Diseños, V. Espelt y Pablo and Mayaya.
“Galicia Invitada”
Another of the new features at the fair will consist of the launching of a new initiative by which each edition of SIMM will feature the attendance of a different Guest Region from Spain. Galicia has been chosen as the region to inaugurate this initiative, based on the strong contribution that this region makes to Spain's clothing industry as a whole and its already prominent participation at the fair over the years. Specifically, at this edition some 29 companies from Galicia will be present at SIMM, accounting for 8.3% of the total number of exhibitors.
"Galicia Invitada” (Guest Region)" is the name of the programme that will be carried out at this edition. The objectives of the initiative include that of casting a spotlight on Galician brands at the fair, helping to promote Galician fashion and Galician fashion companies by means of a range of different measures. In this respect, these companies will be showcased before the trade visitors and members of the media who attend the event. Furthermore, SIMM will help to actively promote the exports of the Galician companies taking part at the fair and open up new markets for them abroad, both by promoting their products and services among the foreign buyers at SIMM and by boosting their profile among the foreign media who attend the fair through the Guest Media Programme that IFEMA organises in conjunction with the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX). "Galicia Invitada" will also enable the region to promote its industry and culture within the framework of SIMM itself. Thus, Galicia will have its own stand at the fair, a place where it can reflect the current state of the industry and where, through a series of different activities (chats, practical demonstrations, etc.), the Galician Textile Industries Confederation (Cointega) and the Fashion Textile Cluster can address new kinds of relations between brands and shops.
According to figures furnished by Cointega-Fashion Textile Cluster, the Galician clothing industry is made up of more than 500 companies, who have an annual turnover of more than 10,000 million euros.
In addition, SIMM will maintain its promotional initiatives for up-and-coming designers. Thus, at this edition the EGO Area will present a special promotional section for the second time so that a number of young talents from the world of fashion can present their creations to the more than 12,000 professionals who visit the fair. On this occasion, EGO will feature the participation of some thirteen up-and-coming designers from different parts of Spain, in addition to a designer from Brazil. These include the participation of the winners of different young designer competitions held in Castile-La Mancha, Castile-Leon, Galicia and Tenerife
Global Fashion: A Plural Appeal and Minimalist Style Will Set the Trend
Fashion will become more global than ever during the new Summer 2011 Season. An entire universe of creations adapted to a multitude of different styles will be the common denominator of the brands taking part at SIMM. The indisputable leading role will be granted to the mini-skirt, whilst pastel shades (rosewood, camel and khaki) will reign supreme, accompanied by acidic and bright colours typical of summer. A romantic sense will also "pervade" the accessories on this occasion.
Floral prints will be a basic feature of next summer's collections, together with a sailor look that has already become popular this season, replete with stripes and blue and white colours. Large volumes, frock coats, dresses and smocks will all gain ground during the new season over light and airy fabrics.
Party gowns and evening-wear will appear in their most minimalist versions, as will formal attire, based on clean and pure lines. Mini-dresses, drainpipe trousers and short jackets will all be key items for the season. With regard to colours, nude and black will predominate in party-wear, together with bright colours typical of the summer season.
Lingerie and underwear for next summer will range from sensual ideas to a sense of sophistication, in the form of suggestive items of vintage inspiration, creations that perfectly define the female body. For its part, the swimwear segment will offer a series of highly creative and comfortable designs.
A Comprehensive Programme of Coinciding Activities
SIMM will once again present a comprehensive programme of coinciding activities, one designed specially to place the spotlight on the latest new trends.
More than ever today, fashion is subject to dizzyingly rapid changes and passing trends that oblige all members of the industry to remain constantly alert to up-and-coming trends, even though the relevance and importance of these fashions may only be fleeting. Professionals must get in quick and early, anticipating the next big thing so that they can cater for demand from the very beginning and before the rest of the field. The key to success in this respect once again resides in having access to the latest information. For this reason, the Textile and Accessory Trade Association (ACOTEX), in collaboration with and under the sponsorship of SIMM, will stage a Seminar on Friday 3rd September in which a series of expert stylists will reveal the latest trends for next Summer 2011. In this sense, they will not only focus on passing and up-and-coming trends, but also on those that will finally be applied, together with the key style factors that will help members of the industry to identify them. Professionals will, thus, gain an insight into the must-wear items of next year, as well as the colour ranges, prints and materials that are indispensable at any outlet that wishes to offer the latest fashions.
The ACOTEX Seminar will be complemented by the staging of a conference organised by the world leader in fashion, design and retail trend forecasting, World Global Style Network (WGSN). This event will offer an analysis of the trends for next summer, as well as informing participants of the updated trends for Autumn-Winter 2011.
These sessions will be complemented by the meeting, Mentes & Moda ("Minds & Fashion"), an initiative organised by the Spanish Federation of Clothing Companies (FEDECON), the Spanish Inter-Textile Council (CIE) and the company, Más Cuota, in collaboration with SIMM. The aim of this event will be to highlight and promote Spanish creativity and to provide a boost for the companies that make up the industry, offering them ideas that help them to improve the marketing and sales strategies they apply to their products abroad.
Furthermore, SIMM will once again be the setting chosen for the presentation of the ninth edition of the report entitled "The Textile Trade in Figures", a publication produced by the Textile Trade Association (ACOTEX). The annual publication of this report helps to update the main indicators regarding the retail sector in Spain (turnover, average expenditure per inhabitant, number of employees and companies and consumer trends), whilst also providing an analysis of the overall economic situation within the industry.
Another of the scheduled activities at SIMM consists of the presentation of the Spanish Fashion Showroom in the Ukraine, known as "LaCasa". This project was designed by the Federation of Textile and Clothes Manufacturing Industries of Aragon, in collaboration with the Ukrainian company, Alta-Tex. The purpose of this project is to create a promotional platform for Spanish fashion and design companies that would like to enter the Ukrainian market.
SIMM (Madrid International Fashion Week) will be open from 9.30 a.m. through to 7.30 p.m.
