The International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, MATELEC 2010, an event organised by IFEMA, will stage its fifteenth edition between 26th and 29th October 2010 at Feria de Madrid. The objectives of the largest industrial fair in Spain have been fulfilled to date, in the sense that the organisers expect to far exceed the figure of five hundred participating companies and achieve a 25% level of foreign participation. This strong international dimension confirms the interest that the Spanish electrical, electronics and telecommunications market arouses among foreign companies.

Within this context, the Multi-Sectorial Association of Companies, AMEC (which includes an association of manufacturers that export electrical and electronic material, AMELEC) recently presented a Report on the Year 2009 and Prospects for the Year 2010. This document highlighted the fact that companies have managed to contain the 14.5% decrease in exports thanks to their strong innovative and export-based profile, not to mention the appropriate measures that were taken in their day in order to tackle the crisis. With regard to the year 2010, the objectives include those of boosting international trade, encouraging innovation, improving productivity and carrying out cost restructuring measures, all of which will help the industry to achieve AMEC's forecasts for this year, namely a 5% increase in exports among the Spanish companies that form part of the association.

Among other initiatives that AMEC is carrying out in order to help companies from the industry enter new markets, we might mention the Association's active participation at MATELEC 2010, in the form of various return and trade missions and the staging of the Al Invest meetings. At this fifteenth edition of the fair, AMEC will organise the INVEST IN MED Meeting, which will feature the participation of some 40 companies and bodies from 9 different countries (Egypt, the Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece and Spain).

Spain: A Good for Market for Investment

The electrical, electronic and telecommunications industry has been undergoing a process of internationalisation for some years now, both in terms of exports on the part of Spanish companies and with regard to foreign investment in Spain. One example of the many foreign companies that will be present at MATELEC 2010 consists of the Asian multinational, CHINT, which has produced electrical material in accordance with European standards for some years now and which decided to set up operations in Spain in 2010, implementing the corresponding business plan throughout the country.

CHINT has confirmed that it will invest more than 20 million euros in the European Union up until the year 2013. In Spain it will invest nearly 6 million euros up until the year 2011, setting up new factories that will bring employment and opportunities to Spain, as well as strengthening the company's presence within the market through participation at the key event and point of reference for the industry, MATELEC.

. Foreign Participation at MATELEC

MATELEC is a highly attractive event for foreign companies, providing them with an excellent means of gaining access to the Spanish market. This much was confirmed by the figures that were achieved at the fair's last edition, which featured some 259 companies from 29 different countries. This international dimension is precisely one of the most important aspects of the fair, an event that, edition after edition, has continued to develop its appeal abroad, making MATELEC one of the leading fairs of its kind on the world circuit. In short, foreign representation accounts for some 25 per cent of total participation, based on some 13 per cent of the net exhibition space presented at the fair. These figures will once again be confirmed at the fifteenth edition of the International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
