Congresses held in the second half of 2011 include the Manager Forum – National Finance, National Sales and Marketing, and Human Resources and Management congresses, the ESRI European User Conference, and SAP Sapphire Now & Sapphire TechEd. The latter, which attracted 8,000 trade visitors from all around the world and was worth over €10 million in income to Madrid, is one of the biggest international events in the IT sector.

The number of fairs organised by other organisations, 33, was practically the same as in 2010. During the second half of the year the IFEMA trade fair site hosted Exporeclam Xmas, Eurobijoux Collection September 2011 Edition, Totalmedia, Gamefest, Aviation Week MRO Europe, Viscom Sign, Estampa, Metalmadrid, Expocecofersa, Empack Logistics, SIMA Otoño, E-Commarketing, Biocultura, the Employment Fair for People with Disabilities, Babies and Mums, Madrid Golf and Marca Blanca.

As regards other events, which totalled 442 in the course of 2011, some major ones stand out, like World Youth Day, which brought millions of young people to Madrid from around the world to share some days with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. The volunteers for this event were centred in IFEMA's facilities and the Pope's farewell to these volunteers marked the end of a very intense week.

Other equally important events included the 10th Assembly of the Federation of Spanish Municipalities and Provinces, FEMP; the 6th International Meeting of Educared – Fundación Telefónica; the 7th Telefónica Directors' Summit; the Internal Auditing Conference; the Banesto Directors' Convention; the Blackberry Innovation Forum; the Marketing 3.0 Forum; Novartis – Diabetes 2 Day; the Thermomix World Congress; the EMC Forum; the Repsol Guide Presentation; the Superdeportivos “Best Cars in the World” exhibition; the Chevrolet Centenary; the Real Madrid Badge Awards to club members, and sports competitions like the Master Padel Pro Tour.

Turning to 2012, we can already announce two important world fairs, leading events in their respective sectors, that will be taking place: CPhI and WAN IFRA. CPhI Worldwide 2012 is the leading event for pharmaceutical products. It expects to bring together 28,500 attendees from 140 countries and over 1,900 exhibitors from 9 to 11 October 2012 at Feria de Madrid, which is holding the event for the third time (the last was in 2009). In fact, IFEMA holds numerous top-level medical and/or pharmaceutical meetings that prove very profitable for the host city.

A few days later, from 29 to 31 October 2012, Feria de Madrid will also be the stage for a new edition of IFRA Expo, the leading world fair for publishers which moves around and this time has chosen Madrid because of its capacity as a nerve centre for business and IFEMA because of the magnificent services it offers.
